How popular isGoogle Chat?

In September 2026, people searched for Google Chat by name about 18,500 times in New Zealand, about the same as the previous year. These searches made up 11.2% of all New Zealand team chat app searches, placing Google Chat second out of eight apps. When we asked both ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews about team chat apps, Google Chat appeared in all answers and was the third most recommended of the eight.
