In September 2026, ChatGPT had more branded searches than Microsoft Copilot among generative AI platforms worldwide. ChatGPT had about 1903.3 million branded searches, while Microsoft Copilot had 24.2 million. ChatGPT made up 69.3% of all generative AI platform searches we track, and Microsoft Copilot accounted for 0.88%. When we asked ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews about generative AI platforms, ChatGPT and Microsoft Copilot each appeared in four of the five answers. ChatGPT was mentioned before Microsoft Copilot in four out of five answers.

In three ChatGPT questions and two Google AI Overviews, ChatGPT was mentioned in four out of five: in all three ChatGPT answers and in one of the two Google AI Overviews. Microsoft Copilot was mentioned in four out of five: in two of the three ChatGPT answers and in both Google AI Overviews. ChatGPT was listed before Microsoft Copilot in four out of five answers.
