In September 2026, Google Authenticator had more branded searches than Authy among authenticator apps in New Zealand. Google Authenticator had about 4,580 branded searches, while Authy had 390. Google Authenticator made up 51.3% of all authenticator app searches we track, and Authy accounted for 4.4%. When we asked ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews about authenticator apps, Google Authenticator appeared in four of the five answers and Authy in one. Google Authenticator was mentioned before Authy in every answer that named either.

Authy was mentioned in one out of five: not in any of the three ChatGPT answers, but in one of the two Google AI Overviews.
