Reddit vs WhatsApp:Which is more popular?

In September 2026, Reddit had more branded searches than WhatsApp among social media platforms in New Zealand. Reddit had about 322,000 branded searches, while WhatsApp had 184,000. Reddit made up 4.1% of all social media platform searches we track, and WhatsApp accounted for 2.3%. When we asked ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews about social media platforms, Reddit appeared in four of the five answers and WhatsApp in two. Reddit was mentioned before WhatsApp in three out of five answers.

Top social media platforms in ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews

In three ChatGPT questions and two Google AI Overviews, Reddit was mentioned in four out of five: in all three ChatGPT answers and in one of the two Google AI Overviews. WhatsApp was mentioned in two out of five: not in any of the three ChatGPT answers, but in both Google AI Overviews. Reddit was listed before WhatsApp in three out of five answers.
