In September 2026, Pixabay had more branded searches than Pexels among stock image sites in New Zealand. Pixabay had about 6,600 branded searches, while Pexels had 4,440. Pixabay made up 17.6% of all stock image site searches we track, and Pexels accounted for 11.9%. When we asked ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews about stock image sites, Pexels appeared in four of the five answers and Pixabay in two. Pexels was mentioned before Pixabay in every answer that named either.

In three ChatGPT questions and two Google AI Overviews, Pexels was mentioned in four out of five: in two of the three ChatGPT answers and in both Google AI Overviews. Pixabay was mentioned in two out of five: not in any of the three ChatGPT answers, but in both Google AI Overviews. Pexels was listed before Pixabay in every answer that named either.
