How popular isTelegram?

In September 2026, people searched for Telegram by name about 16,100 times in New Zealand, a 6.4% decrease from the previous year. These searches made up 4.8% of all New Zealand messaging app searches, placing Telegram third out of seven apps. When we asked both ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews about messaging apps, Telegram appeared in four of the five answers and was the fourth most recommended of the seven.
