In September 2026, Replit had more branded searches than OpenAI Codex among AI coding assistants worldwide. Replit had about 1.5 million branded searches, while OpenAI Codex had 992,000. Replit made up 21.4% of all AI coding assistant searches we track, and OpenAI Codex accounted for 13.9%. When we asked ChatGPT and Google AI Overviews about AI coding assistants, OpenAI Codex appeared in three of the five answers and Replit in one. OpenAI Codex was mentioned before Replit in three out of four answers that named either.

In three ChatGPT questions and two Google AI Overviews, OpenAI Codex was mentioned in three out of five: in all three ChatGPT answers, but not in either of the two Google AI Overviews. Replit was mentioned in one out of five: not in any of the three ChatGPT answers, but in one of the two Google AI Overviews. OpenAI Codex was listed before Replit in three out of four answers that named either.
